TEACHER INFORMATION

 GALAXY OF MUSIC is run by a family of musicians and colleagues who are committed to providing a service for the musical advancement of this area. Our teachers are professional musicians who gig regularly and know what it takes to be a musician. We are experienced in enrolling and preparing students for all AMEB exams in both the Classical and Contemporary courses. Whilst having many beginner students we also offer classes that prepare students for the HSC performance exam and UNIVERSITY entry auditions.

Piano/Keyboards/Bass/Singing/Guitar

 SCOTT UNICOMB: is a professional musician with over 20 years experience in live performance and studio recording. He has been at Galaxy of Music since 1994 teaching beginner to advanced students and is an AMEB registered teacher able to prepare students for both classical and contemporary performance exams. Scott has performed with artists such as James Belushi, Rhonda Burchmore, Barry Crocker, Don Lane as well as many up and coming artists.  He is a founding member of the successful Sydney Band The Gotham City Horns, one of the most sought after and respected corporate function bands in Australia. He has appeared on TV and at major venues throughout Australia and Overseas.

 Guitar/Singing

 DARREN UNICOMB: Darren is our senior specialist guitar teacher. Darren also one of our singing teachers. He has been playing guitar for 28 years and teaching at our studios since 1994. He plays acoustic and electric guitar in restaurant combos and has played lead guitar in various musical  theatre productions. He has done extensive work in local Primary Schools as a group guitar teacher, has conducted guitar workshops at High School Performing Arts camps as well as working with High School Jazz / blues bands. Darren has just finished work on his band’s first CD. Darren has been teaching singing at the studio for 4 years now and has had much success taking students through the Ameb cpm vocal exams as well as students landing auditions on shows like voice Kids.

 Drums

 CHRISTOPHER UNICOMB:  Chris studied drums with one of the great jazz drummers of Australia, Alan Geddes, as well as Mark (The Footy Show) Marriott. He plays and teaches all styles of drumming and plays professionally in Sydney and the Central Coast. His drumming is featured on the CD “Whooshka” by the group Ambush Bug. Chris is also an experienced musical theatre percussionist playing in productions such as Man Of La Mancha, Barnum and Pirates Of Penzanze.He works regularly in his band “The Brazillian Brothers” and freelances often in bands of varying styles from Jazz to Pop to Rock.

Singing

 NARELLE UNICOMB: Initially training  in Lismore,  Narelle was a successful eisteddfod competitor in the Northern areas of New South Wales, as well as a sought after musical comedy performer in several companies, before studying with James Christenson of Brisbane Conservatoruim of Music. Performing leading soprano roles in Gilbert & Sullivan Operettas such as Pirates Of Penzance, HMS Pinafore etc, Narelle was in constant demand. She presented many recitals for the Catholic Diocese of Lismore, under the patronage of the Bishop. Since moving to Sydney in 1977 she has taught singing and has acted as vocal coach in many of her husband’s music theatre productions. She specialises in traditional vocal styles, and her students have been successful in talent quests as well as solo and choral work. She teaches all singing styles, from popular to music theatre and classical. AMEB exams are an option for students in Secondary School and above.
